Module I: Content Development (2-Hour Module, Tuesday, AM)

■ Organize the presentation effectively

■ Develop a clear message

■ Create an agenda that provides the backbone of the presentation

■ Provide transitions so the audience has a clear road map

■ Use stories, analogies, and metaphors to dramatically increase retention

■ Convey the meaning of the data, not just a recitation of facts

■ Provide an opening and closing that will be memorable for the audience

Module 2: Visual Aids (2-Hour Module, Tuesday, PM)

■ Incorporate visual aids strategically, remembering that the speaker is always more important than the visual aids

■ Integrate “best practices” of visual aids based on research by three visual aid experts in the field

■ Fine-tune design of visuals

■ Develop delivery technique using laser and manual pointers

■ Create rapport with the audience by looking at the audience, not the screen

■ Incorporate the use of the “B “ key to keep audience involved

Module 3: Style Has Profound Impact! (2 Hour Module, Thursday, AM)

■ Project personal confidence and credibility

■ “Take a stand” physically and metaphorically: plant feet solidly, balance weight evenly, and be centered (Posture and stance)

■ Demonstrate a sense of authority by using more space in the room

■ Walk with purpose; transition at changes in the content to help the audience delineate concepts (Movement)

■ Be descriptive (show the meaning), open up and use more space with confidence (Gestures)

■ Create credibility and interest while decreasing nervousness through eye contact (Eye Interaction)

■ Pause for content flow, to decrease nervousness, and gain audience retention (Pause)

■ Use vocal variety to demonstrate commitment, conviction, and engagement (Voice)

Module 4: Q&A Best Practices and Handling Audience Dynamics (2-Hour Module, Thursday, PM)

■ Respond to impromptu speaking situations with confidence

■ Handle hostile and challenging questions with ease

■ Control audience disruptions in a professional manner

■ Maximize audience interactivity throughout the presentation

■ Manage the speaking environment
